Book Corner - When God Was A Rabbit -Sarah Winman

When this book first came out I really wanted to read it after reading lots of reviews on the book saying how good it was. However it is one of them books that I never got round to purchasing. I recently spotted it in my local library so I had to borrow it.

The story is about the love and bond between a brother and sister, a family, friendships and love in all many forms. It's a lovely idea but for me I just couldn't get in to this book at all, I found myself reading a little bit and then having to re-read it because I didn't quite understand what was suppose to be happening as the author kept flitting from one thing to another. The first half of the book was ok but then I got really lost in the second half, it seemed rushed somehow. Some of the descriptions in the book were lovely but they just couldn't keep me interested. By the end of the book I was finding it really hard to keep going.

I would love to know what you thought of the book if you have read it?

Yummy Mummy - Dead Sea Spa Magik- Overview and Facial Products

About A month ago I was kindly sent these products to review so although I didn’t purchase them with my own money my review will be honest.

The thing that first attracted me to trying out these products from Spa Magik was that they are all natural products with no added nastiness they don’t contain Parabens and they have certified organic ingredients. The products are also fragrance free which I like especially for products I use on my face as I don’t like using strong smelling products

One ingredient that I did like the sound of was their Harmonised Water™ which is one of their main ingredients and is what makes them so unique.

I was sent products for dry skin and here is what they sent me.

blogger-image--270683629

Dead Sea Bath Salts
Dead Sea Salt brushing scrub

blogger-image--220137564

Cleansing Bar
Mud Mask
Delicate Boosting Mask
And sachets of Body Lotion, Hand cream and Super night cream
So first I am going to talk about the facial products.

blogger-image--1402706394

First up is the cleansing bar, it’s not a soap it is a cleansing bar you can also use this to take off your make up and it’s not just for your face you can also use it on your body if you would like. I can’t comment on heavy eye make up as I don’t wear it. I have been using this along with a muslin cloth and it seems to work well it leaves my skin feeling refreshed but soft. Over all I do like this product but for me like soap I don’t like to leave things like this lying around in a bathroom and after A while the box will get soggy so I will have to find another container to keep it it.

The next thing I tried was the face mask, I love a good pamper session with a face mask and this one was great. My face felt a lot softer after I had used this for about 10 minutes even the dry patches on my forehead and chin.

blogger-image--930618817

As you can see it’s not a heavy clay sort of mask which I like.

blogger-image--803739932

After I used the mask I applied the moisturiser what I love about this is it doesn’t leave your face feeling greasy afterwards like I have noticed with some moisturisers for dry skin, they seem to think because you have dry skin you want a greasy face.

blogger-image--152415014

It is a lovely consistency not to thick and not too runny and as I have said previously it is fragrance free just what I like for my facial products.

blogger-image--2007900591

Keep an eye out for my next post where I will review the bath salts and salt brushing.

Natural Birth Jealousy

If you have read Thomas’s birth story (here) you will know things didn’t go according to plan in fact they were as far away from what I wanted as you could get. I had planned to have a nice calm natural birth in a nice birthing unit instead I was rushed for an emergency cesarean. Obviously I'm glad that everything went OK and Thomas arrived safe and sound as a cesarean was the only option for us in the end.

BUT a couple of friends have since given birth and have been lucky enough to have a natural vaginal birth and I can’t help feeling a little jealous of them, Silly huh? Some women opt to have a c-section but for me it was something that I never wanted to have. For me giving birth is a natural and special experience that as a women I wanted to go through regardless of how much it hurts. I wanted to experience giving birth, I wanted to see what it was like is it really like what you see on One Born Every Minute.

With my next baby I really hope I can go down the VBAC route so that I can experience a natural birth as but obviously if it comes down to it and it is dangerous for me and my future baby then I would have a caesarean.

What do you think? Have you had a Cesarean do you feel jealous of people who have natural births.

Thomas’s 3 Month Update.

300788_10152038683395637_2104101108_n

I will say the same thing every month but I can’t believe how fast these months are going. My baby boy is 3 months old today. We last got him weight about 3 weeks ago so he is due to get weighed again soon but the last time he was 12lb10. Thomas is now on 5-6oz milk every 3.5 – 4 hours and his bedtime is now 9pm most nights and we now put him to bed on his own which is easier than I thought he pretty much just settles himself. Then he wakes around 4:30 and then wakes anywhere from 7-8am.

Thomas is growing up so fast just the other day he has started rolling he can get from his belly over to his back and then he can nearly get from his back to his belly if he would just keep his hands out of his mouth for long enough he would do it.

305190_10152062318590637_166462861_n

That brings me on to the next new thing. Thomas has started teething he is constantly slobbering and his first or fingers are constantly in his mouth. Apparently it is quite common around this age although they probably won’t cut their first tooth for a couple of months.

Thomas is such a smiley little boy he has got a smile on his face all the time and he is nearly laughing properly now. We have lots of little chatter sessions and he has started shouting me and his daddy if we aren’t paying him any attention.

Thomas can now grab things, mainly my hair hehe but if you put one of his toys in front of him he can grab it and lift it up. He is getting to that age where we can start playing with him properly.

Our First Family Day Out - St Anne's & Blackpool

Yesterday we had our very first family day trip with Thomas David and his dad and sister. We took a trip to St Anne’s so that we could visit David’s Auntie and then we took a little drive over to Blackpool.

If you have never been to St Anne’s it is worth a visit its a lovely little town, there isn’t that much there if I'm honest but it’s nice to have a little walk along the front and with Blackpool just about a 10 minute drive down the road its worth taking a day trip there.

The drive up to St Anne’s was awful the rain was so bad at some points you could hardly see the car in front.

blogger-image--6958014

Luckily by the time we got to St Anne’s the weather was lovely and the sun was shining down on us.

blogger-image--1886596286

blogger-image-2084089752

Thomas shading from the sun in his pram. He spent most of the day being carried around as he loves to be carried around. I do have a baby carrier but it’s not that great.
We went for dinner at a carvery but can you believe I chose a Chicken Tikka salad over a carvery?!?

blogger-image--1259836829

The famous Blackpool tower, could do with a lick of paint.

blogger-image-902398798

You can’t go to Blackpool with out some chips on the front can you?

Back home after his first day trip.

Book Corner - Sister - Rosamund Lupton

Nothing can break the bond between sisters …
When Beatrice gets a frantic call in the middle of Sunday lunch to say that her younger sister, Tess, is missing, she boards the first flight home to London. But as she learns about the circumstances surrounding her sister's disappearance, she is stunned to discover how little she actually knows of her sister's life – and unprepared for the terrifying truths she must now face.
The police, Beatrice's fiancé and even their mother accept they have lost Tess but Beatrice refuses to give up on her. So she embarks on a dangerous journey to discover the truth, no matter the cost.

I have been wanting to read this book for absolutely ages and when I finally found it in my local library. I couldn't wait to start reading it. The blurb tells you basically what the story is about and I don't really want to go in to anymore detail as it will begin to ruin the story. I'm normally more of a slushy chick lit sort of girl but I loved this book and was gripped right from the start. It's full of twists and turns which keep you guessing right until the last chapter so I never lost interest.

If you can get your hands on this book I would recommend it to anybody, I just can't wait to read Rosamund's next book Afterwards which I have already got on my Kindle ready and waiting.

What's On My Bedside Table

I have seen this tag floating around so I thought I would do it and show you what is currently on my bedside table.

So I have a Special Sister Me to you bear that my sister got me I think it was for my 21st. I have a photo of my dad and I from my school dinner dance. I am actually going to update that soon, I have recently got a photo of my dad and I from my wedding printed out so I just need to get a new frame for that.

I have A’kin Hydrating facial mist, I have this here because some nights it gets so warm so when I am up feeding Thomas I have a quick spritz and also throughout the day it is good to just freshen up your make up.
Next I have a bottle of Infacol for Thomas I use this with him because sometimes he finds it hard to bring up his wind and I don’t want him getting a poorly tummy. I also have his dummy :)

Finally I have some reading material, although none of it is what I am currently reading hehe, There is my kindle, The pile of stuff at the bottom of the stairs book and 2 magazines which are Elle and Company these are last months magazines and I still haven’t got round to reading them =/

So what do you have on your table? If you have done this post too then link me up =)

Time For A Chat

The other day I was walking round a Car boot sale with Thomas and my mum and all the way around I was talking to Thomas and pointing things out and my mum commented and said I talk to him as if he can understand what I am saying and I expect him to answer me. Well yes I do (well I don’t expect him to answer back or have a clue what I am on about) I talk to him as I would anybody else even though all I get is a little smile or some baby babble. I think it is so important to constantly talk to your babies after all that is how they will learn how to form words by watching your mouth and listening to the sounds you are making. Also by pointing things out to them your baby will begin to learn about the environment around them.

There is nothing cuter than when me and Thomas have our little chats, I will sit there and talk to him and he responds by babbling back, sometimes he babbles for ages about something and he gets so excited and smiles and squeaks and flaps his arms and legs about as if he thinks he is telling me a really exciting story.

Also I think it’s so important to read to your child from a very, very young age even though they don’t understand what you are saying now they will soon learn and after all you still talk to babies even though they don’t understand you so why not read them a quick story. “Research shows that the more words parents use when speaking to an 8-month-old infant, the greater the size of their child's vocabulary at age 3.” So even from a very young age you are giving your child the best start in their learning journey.

Babies also just love the sound of your voice and they find it soothing, Thomas loves to lay with me and will listen to me read him a book and he just looks at the big colourful pictures it’s another way to have cuddles and special time together.

So now you have finished reading this if you have 5 minutes to spare put your feet up have a snuggle with your little one and read them a story or just have a chat.

The Velveteen Rabbit–Margery Williams

Thomas was given this book yesterday by my cousin she was getting rid of some of her baby books and decided she wanted to give them to Thomas and one of the books she gave him was The Velveteen Rabbit, now if you have watched friends in the past you will have heard it mentioned when Chandler bought it for one of Joey’s girlfriends and ever since then I had been curious to read it.

So a couple of nights ago it was my bedtime reading. It’s a cute story of a rabbit that was bought for a little boy at Christmas and he loved it for a couple of hours until he had bigger and what he thought were better presents, the rabbit soon got forgotten about and he waits around until the day the little boy choses him to play with again. The rabbit soon meets a little horse who begins to tell him how toys can become real. It’s not how toys are made that make them real it happens when toys are loved for a long time.

This book is such a sweet, beautifully written story with so many beautiful lines in it. I can’t wait to read it to Thomas when he is older. It is definitely a book I would recommend you buying and reading to your little one. Or even just get it so that you can read it yourself because as a grown up it was a lovely book that I enjoyed to read and it put a smile on my face.

Autumn Winter Wishlist

Well after an extremely disappointing summer I am now looking forward to Autumn Winter at least you can count on the weather being bad.
So I decided to do a little post on what I want to be wearing this next season.
I am desperate for a new pair of jeans as I am still actually wearing my maternity ones because they come up over my c-section scar so they don’t rub, but am sick of them so I want a pair of cheap jeans because I am hoping to loose 2 stone so don’t want to spend a lot in case that happens. So I found these on the New Look website for £9.99.

I really love this leopard print top and it is an absolute bargain at £5.99. I could imagine wearing this with a pair of skinny jeans and flats for a casual day look or paired with a pair of heels for a night look.

This colour for me is the ultimate autumn colour so for £6.99 again is another bargain one I will definitely be treating myself to.

I have heard quite a lot of bloggers talk about these shoes from H&M and they have all said how comfy they are. Now for £19.99 is more than what I would normally pay for shoes of any one item of clothing these days as we all know Maternity pay is rather pants but there is something about them I really want. I may have to put them on my Christmas list.
I have seen other bloggers wearing Disco pants for a while now and I really like the look of them but I don’t know whether I would dare to wear them, I’ve not seen anybody wearing them where I live (It’s not a trendy place) I don’t know if I would wear them as an everyday thing because they seem a bit too dressy for me. What do you think? These are from Glamorous and are £29.99 which are perhaps a bit too much for something I’m not sure about.

I have been wanting the Michael Kors Rose gold watch for absolutely ages not but at the price it is, it’s highly unlikely I will ever get it. I spotted this watch on the Littlewoods website for £45and love it. I’m hoping to get it for either our wedding anniversary or Christmas off the hubby.

I quite enjoy doing Internet window shopping so I might do a couple of these posts :)

Yummy Mummy - Soap and Glory Hand Food

Since becoming a Mummy it seems like my hands are constantly in water. Whether its bathing Thomas, cleaning his bottles or doing the dishes three times a day my hands are at the front line of cleaning. So now more than ever I need to start looking after them as already one of my fingers has got a little bit of chapped skin and my hands feel really dry.

So I just wanted to share with you a little gem I have found….well not found more rediscovered. I have had Soap and Glory’s Hand food for a while now but before Thomas came along my hands were really soft anyway (lack of hard work you see) so I rarely used hand cream. Now though it is a product I need on a daily basis. So now I reach for Hand food.

The tag line on the product is “The most astonishing hand cream ever?” I wouldn’t quite go that far to be honest but I do really like this hand cream. Hand Food contains Shea butter, macadamia oil and marshmallow which makes for a lovely subtle scent. It’s non greasy too I hate greasy hand creams that make you want to wash your hands as soon as you apply it there is nothing worse than greasy hands is there?

So if you are looking for a new hand cream this is definitely worth a try.

Yummy Mummy - Shopping My Stash

I have always enjoyed watching empties videos on Youtube for some reason, I'm not really sure why but I do I suppose it's a good way to see why products people are really enjoying using because they must use them day in day out.

Whereas I am the sort of person who buys new products before the old have ran out so I end up throwing lots of things away when they go bad. I am trying to change that though because I simply can't afford to keep buying lots of new things so I am going to start shopping my stash and using up my existing products. So I thought it may be interesting for you to see what I am currently using.

So these products I have chosen are mostly half used and need to be used up pretty soon. The main one I am giving another chance is my Liz Earle, I want to reignite my love for it.
Another product I want to use up is my Natural collection tinted moisturiser. It's not great I think it only cost about £1.99 but it's been sitting in my collection for a while so I thought now the weather is too warm for me to wear foundation everyday I would give this ago.
I rarely use heat defence on my hair so this VO5 needs to be used up to try and get me in the habit of using protection every time I use heat on my hair.

So expect to see a follow up post to this when I have some empties to show you

Blogging In Secret

Found on weheartit.com

I have been blogging now for 8 months and you know how many of my friends know about it? 3 that's all. Not even David. I don't really know why I haven't told him or any of my family, it has never come up in conversation. The other reason I haven't told anybody is that I suppose I'm kinda embarrassed about it, Like people won't get what I'm doing or why.
However I should be proud of my blog... Well I am proud of my blog, it's my own little space on the t'internet but I don't want people to think I'm geeky. Do you know what I mean?
It's not a place I come to bitch about people so why am I so worried about people finding out?

I see my blog as a place to record bits of Thomas's life but obviously I don't over share I don't want to talk about every little detail. I also record bits of my everyday life again being cautious about how much I do share as you never know what loons are watching.

Some day soon I will have to start telling people about my blog as I have been sent a few things to review and pretty soon David will start questioning where I am getting these products from.

If you have read my bucket list (link is at the too) You will have seen one of my goals is to tell people about my blog. The first people I will be telling is my mum, sister and David and then who knows I may casually put a link on Facebook ..... Maybe?

Thomas's First Year Scrapbook

Before Thomas was born I was planning on doing a Project 365 for his first year. But in reality that proved harder than I first thought I didn't have time for blogging in the first few weeks and I lost tract of all the photos I was taking but I still wanted to record his first year so instead I decided to make a scrapbook and each month I am printing the photos off and creating this little memory book.

This is a few photos from the first month.

Do not ask why these pictures have turned out like this I can't for the life of me get them the right way round.

I didn't buy a normal scrapbooking book I just bought a sketch book from The Range it has quite thick pages so it's pretty good for this time of project.
All of the embellishments in the scrapbook such as the lettering you can see are all off different sellers on ebay and we all only a few pounds for little packets full of stuff. I am building up quite a collection of things in my craft box now.

I am a little behind on month 2 at the minute I have all of the photos printed and ready but so far I haven't really had much time to get stuck in as Thomas doesn't have long naps anymore like he did when I did month 1 so I will have to find sometime when Daddy is around to get stuck in because before I know it, it will be time to get started on Month 3!

Take A Little Time

And give your beautiful baby a massive hug and a big kiss as they are the most precious thing in the world.

Dodgy front camera Iphone pic

After hearing the devestating news that Gary Barlow and family have lost their beautiful baby girl it made me realise how truely lucky I am to have a healthy baby boy. He is the most precious thing in my life. We may not have tonnes of money a massive house and lots of pretty things but what I do have is worth so much more I have a beautiful son and a husband who loves us both. I thank my lucky stars.

RIP Beautiful Poppy

The Mummy Diaries - 5/8/2012

Where has this week gone? Where did July go? I cant believe it is August already!.

On Wednesday we went to see one of my friends for an hour or so just to have a catch up and to speak to another female as I am living in a house full of smelly boys it was much needed.

Then Thursday I took Thomas to our local market as they are doing a baby and toddler competition so we have entered him in to that. I’m not really expecting him to win as the only way you can vote is to go in to the market. Which is a bit crap but hopefully they photographer took some good photos so we can purchase one so the sitting was basically free which is good..

Yesterday David’s family came down to see Thomas so we had a lovely day we went out to lunch and they we had a walk around a local garden centre which has some lovely little trinket shops there. Thomas loved being centre of attention as usual and enjoyed lots of cuddles off his Nana and Auntie and he was also super duper cute for them babbling away full of smiles.

This last week he has really found his voice and once he starts he doesn’t shut up it is so, so cute. It’s like you can have a proper conversation with him. He is growing up so quick I don’t like it. I can’t believe he is 10weeks old now!

Yummy Mummy- Leopard Print Nails

I have been wanting to try Leopard print nails for ages but it was just something that I never got round to trying as I don't seem to get time to sit and spend ages doing my nails. When I actually got round to doing I found that it didn't take very long at all.

Firstly what you need to do it pick a base colour to paint your nails for this I chose Barry M's Instant nail effects in Gold foil.

Next I used a Primark nail art pen in Silver which was £1.99 and then what you need to is random splodges all over your nails. Don't worry you don't need to be neat.

Then take either a black nail art pen or you can even use a liquid eyeliner. I used a black nail art pen also from Primark for £1.99 and draw sort of little squiggly lines in random places around your silver splodges and do random black splodges. Again don't worry too much about being neat.

And finally when your nails are completely dry finish up with a coat of clear nail varnish to set the nails. make sure your nails are completely dry, I didn't with my right hand and ended up smudging my nails as the black nail art pen too ages to dry.

Letters To My Son #4

Dear My Beautiful Boy,

I just thought I would write you a little letter as I haven't for a while. You are currently sitting in your chair keeping yourself amused by talking to yourself and kicking your legs around, everyday you are growing and changing from a little baby to a little boy. You are developing your own cheeky personality when me and your daddy talk to us you give us a very cheeky little smile (I've just looked at you and got a massive smile you are such a happy smiley boy) and we have lots of little chats, you have definitely found your voice.
Your day time naps are getting shorter and shorter now which means you want to be kept occupied a lot more now so we spend lots of time playing in your doughnut with your little toys and we have lots of smiles together and little chats you make me so so happy!

I am so proud to be your Mummy you are such a good boy and whenever we get stopped by anybody when we are shopping and they talk to you, you give them a big smile and they are totally taken by you. It's difficult to get around now without being stopped.

Anyway you have just woken up from your morning nap so I had better get your bottle ready for you plus I want a cuddle :)

Lots of love
Mummy xx
